pDespite the poor quality, this is one of my favourite PNG 365 shots. I don't generally have other people in my 365 shots - but I did make a few exceptions during my PNG trip. Here I was holding Gideon - John and Vue's youngest son (John and Vue are who I stay with when in PNG). I think Vue said he was born on November 4th (hey - I just realised that would make him the same age as my 365!). He's their fourth child, and this is the third trip in a row I've arrived and they've had a new baby. (Oddly enough, I've never been there while she's pregnant!)br /
br /
(Journal entry) It's 6:15 am and the radio has been blaring for about an hour. It's one of the things I hate about here. But at least there hasn't been anyone around yet with their radio blaring in the middle of the night.br /
br /
I don't want to go to Volavolo today, but I've yet to come up with a good reason to get out of it. I know they'll understand why I don't want to go, but I don't know if it'll be a good enough reason to actually stay back. *sigh* Today is going to be a long day.br /
br /
(Note - I did go, and it wasn't great, but wasn't bad. At church I saw the person I didn't want to see, and was pretty upset by it. But afterwards was nice - yes, I had lots of people come up to me and want to talk to me, but I was able to make it not too bad by hanging out with the kids as much as possible - which is quite often my strategy when I feel overwhelmed by people.br /
br /
Because it was a big celebration - the feast day for the Sacred Heart Mission, the arm of the Catholic Church that the Archdiocese of Rabaul falls under - there was lots of dancing and such. Oddly enough, I didn't see any traditional dances - which there usually is. But the most entertaining was a group of older ladies - mostly Vue's relatives - that dressed in pants (trousers) and marched around the field pretending they were Japanese soldiers. At the end they even sang a Japanese song that they must've been taught during the war. It was fascinating - I'll put up some pictures later.)br /
